Azarbaijan University of Tarbiat Moallem
Azarbaijan University of Tarbiat Moallem (AUTM) was founded in 1987 in Tabriz, the Capital of Eastern Azarbaijan province, northwestern Iran. Originally, it was a branch of Tehran Teacher Education University, but it 1988 AUTM became an independent university with the objective of training competent teachers in different fields for the fulfillment of the educational policies essential for a developing educated society. Accordingly , AUTM was the base for supplying the region’s needs for high school teachers.
Now, AUTM has broader objectives and perspectives. Beside first degree (undergraduate) courses, graduate courses have been commenced and the introduction of postgraduate courses as well as adding research departments to AUTM form only some of the goals which will be achieved in the near future. Undoubtedly, AUTM offers students an opportunity to broaden their academic, personal and cultural horizons.
The construction projects which started in late 1980’s are still in progress. Once completed, the university will be in effect a small town itself. Its multi–purpose modern buildings comprise many lecture rooms, seminar rooms and conference halls, computer labs, a central library, restaurants and canteens, a mosque, accommodation for teaching staff, and dormitories for students, a hotel for visiting lecturers, a comprehensive sports center, various shops, a bank, a post office, and a petrol station, a vast open parkland, and so many other facilities.
Currently, six faculties, namely faculties of
- Engineering
- Basic Sciences
- Letters and Humanities
- Theology and Islamic Sciences
- Information Technology
- Psychology & Education
offer courses in various fields. Some 4000 students study in these areas under the supervision of about 200 full time and part time professors and lecturers. Our professors are also involved in many research projects and frequently participate in and contribute to international and national conferences.
Despite its relatively young history, Azarbaijan University of Tarbiat Moallem has displayed a consistent and constant progress in achieving higher levels of education and research. Everybody here is striving to go beyond set standards, to make this university an ideal place for those who want to materialize their ideals.
